Obituary
Don Elliott, late of Okotoks, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the age of 79.
Don is survived by his wife Julie (Floyd) Elliott, daughter Darolyn and family, and son Jason and family.
Don was born on January 30, 1941, to Gerald and Helen Elliott in Indian Head, Sask. He left home at the age of eighteen and moved to Assiniboia to work for Glauser’s general store. This is where Don met Julie, a local hairdresser — their first date was to see the movie, Burning Ring of Fire, starring Johnny Cash.
Don would later move to Regina and found work at Crosley’s Hats and Haberdashers shop. After four years of dating, Don and Julie were married on August 10, 1965 in Moose Jaw. Don changed jobs in Regina and was the assistant manager of an Agnew Surpass store, then promoted to his own location in Saskatoon. On July 6, 1972, Darolyn Dawn was born. In September 1972, Don was transferred to Brandon, Manitoba to manage another Agnew Surpass store. The family stayed there for exactly one year and moved on to Weyburn. Don changed careers and sold cars for Great Plains Ford. It was in Weyburn they found out they were expecting another child. Due to the size of their growing family, they decided to build their own home, which cost $25,000. On August 15, 1974, Jason Julian was born. Don went into the mechanical tool sales business, purchasing and stocking his own Mac Tools truck. In 1993, dad sold the tool truck and went to work at Redcoat Chrysler as a salesman. For health reasons, in 2000, they moved to Okotoks Alberta and settled into their new community where they devoted their time to their 3 wonderful grandchildren, Jadon, Caitlin, and Justin. They have resided in Okotoks for 20 years – the last few Don was challenged with a variety of illnesses including being diagnosed with dementia. Don was known for his unique gun collection, and his love of movies and music. He will always be remembered as loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. On August 10, 2020, Don and Julie would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
A private family service will be held to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Don’s name to the Alzheimer’s/Dementia charity in your community.
