Dino Maniago Saturday February 15th 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Dino Maniago announces his peaceful passing on February 15, 2020 at the age of 87 at his home in Burnaby, BC. Dino was born in Trail, BC on August 19, 1932 to Attilio and Norina Maniago. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Walter and sisters-in-law Jackie and Mavis.
He is survived by his loving partner of 22 years, Diane Atkins, her daughters Kelley Law and Lori Atkins, his children Tony Maniago and Carla Clarke, their mother Janet Maniago, 4 grandchildren: Alex and Anthony Maniago, Jakob and Ashley Clarke, Kelley’s children Christopher Owen, Cameron and Madison Law, and his brother Cesare Maniago. Dino will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Growing up in Trail, Dino was a member of the Trail Maple Leaf Band playing the trombone and he showed great athletic ability playing hockey. From 1950-1953 he played junior hockey for the Medicine Hat Tigers and the Edmonton Oil Kings. At the same time, Dino worked at Cominco in Trail and received his apprenticeship in masonry. By the late 1950’s, he had started his own company, Acme Masonry, which went on to be one of the largest masonry contractors in BC. His true labour of love was building, brick by brick, and being one of the original owners of the Villa Hotel. His company went on to be involved in the construction of many buildings throughout BC and many of BC’s landmarks such as the Pacific Coliseum and BC Place. For many years, he served as a Board Member on the BC and Canadian Masonry Contractors Association.
Those who knew Dino will forever remember his larger than life personality, his ability to hold court for his neverending story telling on every topic imaginable. He had a love for food and wine and could often be found with his close friends at Dario’s.
He was very proud of his Italian heritage and was a longtime member of the Fruilano Club.
A Celebration of Dino’s Life will be held on Friday, April 17th at 1:00 pm at the Italian Cultural Centre Society, 3075 Slocan Street in Vancouver.
