Obituary for
Dennis Nicholas Strilchuk
Dennis was born in Round Hill, AB, to Joseph and Magdalene Strilchuk. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Becky; grandson, Michael Strilchuk; siblings, Katherine Cornish, Theodore (Ona) Strilchuk, June Niven and Cleone Lucas; brother-in-law, Brian Downey; as well as numerous cherished nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Magdalene; his son, Dennis Junior; siblings, Irene Doyle, Alice Strilchuk, Delrose Wilk, Kenneth Strilchuk, Sharon Downey and Gail Lancaster; as well as brothers-in-law, Pat Doyle, Frank Cornish, Frank Niven, Edward Wilk, Walter Lucas and Graham Lancaster.
Dennis began his education at the Round Hill and Meldal Schools, which was followed by Camrose Lutheran College for grades 11 and 12. He then attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, graduating from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences with Honors in Pharmacy having won a gold medal for coming 1st in his class. Dennis married Becky Eide on August 25, 1951.
Following graduation from the University of Alberta, Dennis spent one year teaching in the university’s Pharmaceutical Department. He then commenced working in a variety of drug stores prior to purchasing his own pharmacy. Dennis and Becky adopted two sons, Dennis Junior and Terry. After completing 20 years of practice in his own store, Dennis closed his pharmacy, but continued to work in various pharmacies throughout Edmonton.
When Dennis’ parents retired from farming, Dennis and Becky bought the family farm and enjoyed a number of years travelling back and forth between Edmonton and the Round Hill area, having added farming to Dennis’ pharmacy responsibilities.
Dennis loved to paint, fish and carve, and was an accomplished cook. He also enjoyed spending many hours making religious ceremonial candles for his church. Dennis and Becky spent many happy vacations in Hawaii and developed numerous long lasting friendships.
Funeral Service Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton, with visitation one half hour prior to the service. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, 14611 Mark Messier Trail NW, Edmonton. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed at www.parkmemorial.com.
