Obituary of Denis Poirier
It is with great sadness that the family of Denis Joseph Poirier announces his passing after a courageous 21 month battle with brain cancer, on Monday, December 14th, 2020 at the age of 66 years. Denis was born to Joseph Aurèle and Rita Poirier on September 21st, 1954 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and worked for Canada Post in Ottawa for nearly forty years before retiring in 2011 so he could spend more time with his grandsons and travel.
Denis and his wife Patricia married in 1982 and welcomed their daughter Chantal in 1984. From the moment Chantal was born, she was number one to her dad and he was so incredibly proud of her. Chantal and her husband Steve welcomed their first son Aiden in 2011 and their second son Lucas in 2013 and Denis then became known as « Pappi ».
Denis was known for his love of the Montreal Canadiens, spent countless hours watching them play, and was convinced every year was their year to win the cup. He had a love for tropical destinations and spent two winters post retirement in Florida. In 2012, he purchased a trailer at Otter Lake which he absolutely loved and there he met his partner Carol. Carol was a big part of Denis’ care over the last couple of years and provided much needed love and support.
Denis is survived by his parents Joseph Aurèle and Rita Poirier, his daughter Chantal Brown (Steve), grandsons Aiden and Lucas, sister Linda Dupré (Paul), brother Steve Poirier (Suzanne Desormeaux) and partner Carol Caron. Denis was predeceased by his sister Carolle Karsten (Bill).
In celebration of Denis’ life, a private funeral service was held on Friday, December 18th. If family or friends desire, donations can be made in memory of Denis to The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada at www.braintumour.ca.
