Mr. Dale Petersen of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the age of 81 years.
Born and raised in Lethbridge, AB, Dale Petersen found purpose expressing his creativity and inspiring others to do the same. Dale was a creator—a carpenter—and worked as a high school shop and graphics teacher. He taught critical thinking and precision-based design, taking great pride in the details. In the 1970s, Dale and his family moved to Germany for a four-year teaching secondment and travelled extensively throughout Europe.
Those who knew Dale will remember him as a perfectionist who strove for excellence. Over the years, Dale honed his craftmanship hobbies and designed, created and built his own home, Scandinavian furniture, and custom cabinets and gun stocks for his friends. He also fashioned innovative tools, shuffleboards, skeet games, go carts and much more.
Dale was an avid hunter, trap and skeet shooter and gun collector. He was instrumental in establishing the Lethbridge Trap Club and served as president there for several years. When the club closed, he continued his legacy by designing skeet games at nearby farms with his friends.
Dale loved his dogs and spent considerable time training them to hunt, retrieve, and even fetch beer from the fridge. He enjoyed outdoor activities, competitive games, camping and skiing, and spending special occasions with family enjoying good food, drinking questionable wine and discussing bad politics and the stock market.
Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa was an intelligent, independent and deep-thinking man who marched to the beat of his own drum up until his final day. He is survived by his two daughters, Corinne and Kelly (Pete), five grandchildren, Kalen (Natalia), Spencer, Cassidy, Blake (Josh) and Quinn (Skyler), great grandchild Kateryna and other relatives and close friends.
The family thanks the healthcare professionals from Chinook Regional Hospital for their excellent and attentive care.
At Dale’s request and due to COVID-19, there will be no memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated, 325 Manning Rd NE #200, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
