Captain James G. Conway CD Ret’d (1945-2020)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Captain James G. Conway, known to most as Big Jim or Jungle. He gave his final order on Saturday November 21st at St. Anne’s Hospital in Ste- Anne-de-Bellevue, QC at the age of 75.
Jim is sorely missed and is survived by his daughter Shannon (Gary McCoubrey), and grandson Kiernan Collie (Laura Betolini), sister Susan DeMoors, and their families as well as many cousins, uncles, and friends.
Born to Jessie Conway (nee Castell) and James D. Conway, in February 1945. He attended Loyola College, and completed a bachelor’s degree in political science at night while working for the Canadian Pacific Police as a constable. Jim was instrumental in establishing the Canadian Pacific Police Brotherhood union.
He was a long serving member of the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada. He retired at rank of Captain in October 1988 and became a member of the Black Watch Association executive. He was devoted heart, blood and soul to the Black Watch Pipes and Drums.
Jim could boast an overwhelming plethora of friendships and acquaintances throughout his lifetime. His larger than life persona, the dash between his date of birth and date of death are far too great to simplify in writing. To know him was to love him, debate with him and be exasperated by him. Jim’s passion stemmed from a deep routed desire to connect with the people around him on his terms.
Due to present circumstances a private funeral service will be held on Saturday December 12th, 2020 at Kane and Fetterly. The family invites those who wish to attend virtually to email email@example.com
Interment will follow at a later date, at the National Field of Honour in Pointe-Claire Quebec.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff, nurses and other professionals of T14 at Ste Anne’s Hospital as well as Dre Genevieve Richer for the excellent care they provided to Jim in his final months. Their patience and dedication will always be remembered. Jim was happy to be at Ste Anne’s and was often said that the food alone was a step up from his last residence. The fact that he had shepherds pie twice a month – huge bonus for him!!
Rest now POPS!
