Cheryl Anne Thibault
1944-2020
Born on Valentine’s Day 1944, Cheryl had a huge
heart. She fell in love with the boy down the street in Aylesford, and
they travelled together with his career in the military, including
stops in Whitehorse, Ottawa, and Washington, D.C. where she indulged
her passion for theater and music. Then her two mischievous boys came
along, and her already big heart grew even bigger. Upon moving home to
Nova Scotia, Cheryl enjoyed a career with Canada Post for over 30
years, becoming Assistant Postmaster in Berwick. Incredibly social,
she always had a joke on hand and a smile on her face. She had her
finger on the pulse of the town, and always knew if someone needed a
helping hand. She was responsible for many kind, loving notes slipped
anonymously into mailboxes, and helped many people through troubled
times – divorce (sometimes multiple), depression, and
medical crises. She spent many hours on the phone, lending a caring
ear (her husband paid the phone bill). Cheryl loved cats and cared for
town strays. She loved birds, music and dancing, and was an avid
reader of English history. She loved going to the beach and putting
her feet in the water, whether on a warm summer’s day or in
the dead of winter with her sister, Edna. She loved a good party, a
good card game, and visiting friends and family. She celebrated her
last Valentine’s birthday with the people she loved
best.
Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, George Raymond McPhee
and Constance (Bowlby); brother, George, and sister Faye (Elliott).
Cheryl leaves behind her husband, Gary; sons, Jason (Amanda) and
Trevor (Meredith Parker); grandchildren, Kaden, Storm and Peyton;
sisters, Edna (Brunt) and Barb (Ford).
On behalf of Cheryl, the family would like to say a big thank
you to the VON for their help and support, the Valley Regional
Hospital, in particular for the loving care of the nursing staff in
Medical A who made her last months and days very comfortable, and her
roommates who helped keep her spirits up. She’ll be deeply
missed and her love will be with us forever.
Interment will be held on a beautiful summer day
(we hope). Donations can be made to the Kings County SPCA,
VON, or Valley Regional Hospital. Please send your memories of Cheryl
and condolences to the Thibault family, care of the Berwick Post
Office. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral
Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
