Carol Ann Thorburn
Carol Ann Thorburn (nee Petch), 88, passed away on October 22, 2020 in Windsor after a long battle with vascular dementia. She was born to the late Jack Doan Petch and Marion Fern (Scott) Petch on April 14, 1932 in Walkerville, ON. Predeceased by her beloved husbands, William A. Thorburn (2019) and Adrian R. Vos (1993).
Loving mother of Gil (Tracey) LeBlanc of DeBary, FL, Russ (Darlene) LeBlanc of Cedar, MI, Neal (Kim) LeBlanc of Grosse Ile, MI, Rene’ (Larry) LeBlanc-Sharer of Pleasant Ridge, MI, Paula LeBlanc of Pleasant Ridge, MI and Barb LeBlanc of Madison Heights, MI. Carol is survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored, and two brothers, Jack (Gloria) Petch and Tom (Sheila) Petch, both of Gananoque, ON, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Having led a very diversified and interesting life that she loved, Carol was an avid reader and a gifted artist and painter. She was past president of the Women’s Business Association of Flint, MI, owned her own furniture stripping and refinishing business, designed and made beautiful hats and floral arrangements, and taught millinery classes. Her many interests included baking, gardening, antiques, camping, nature, exercise and weight lifting, travel and exploring new places. She was extremely knowledgeable about history and genealogy. Carol was also very spiritual, interested in feng shui and holistic and alternative health remedies and techniques. Upon retirement, she became a masseuse and a member of the Red Hat Society. She also baked, decorated and sold fruitcakes that customers still ask for. Carol will be remembered as a strong, fun-loving, friendly, passionate woman who was very sensitive and caring for others. She loved her entire family and they loved her. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. As per Carol’s wishes, a memorial service will take place in her beloved Gananoque at a later date.
