Bill Wasyl

Obituary for
Bill (Wasyl) Ostapowich
Bill (Wasyl) Ostapowich said his greatest achievement was raising his children and watching his grandchildren grow. For the greater part of Bill’s 87 years, he was able to live this achievement. On Saturday, December 12, 2020 he will no longer be able to do this, as he was embraced by God’s love and met by his predeceased family, friends, and dog family.
Bill died at home surrounded in love by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Patsy); his children, Nadine, her husband, Mike Roppo and their children, Emma, Anthony, and Sophia; Merrie, her husband, Reverend Father Cornell Zubritsky and their children, Ephraim and Alexander; Camille, her husband, Chris Allen and their children, Emmett and Annie; his brothers, Stan and Jim (Sylvia); sisters-in-law, Rosie Kostura and Toyk (John) Kelly; many nieces, nephews; friends; and many that loved him.
Bill grew up in Andrew, AB and left the farm to build a life of his own and eventually marry the love of his life, Patsy. Later, he completed high school and attended NAIT, receiving his heavy-duty mechanic ticket. Bill’s interests were diverse. He was passionate about photography. Bill was a talented handy-person, and was especially gifted in carpentry and wood-finishing. This was very apparent in his duck and bird wood-carvings that he loved to create where he won competitions for his artistry. Bill enjoyed nature and always felt at home in green spaces and reserves where, when he still was able to, enjoyed walks with his family and with the many dogs that were part of his life. Bill’s love and appreciation of music carries on in his children and grandchildren. He ‘picked’ the guitar until he was no longer able to, as a result of rheumatoid arthritis. Bill traveled to many countries around the world, and although he “never wanted to go,” he was always the first one out the door. Upon his return, he loved sharing stories, memories, and photos of the many places he visited. In his later years, Bill loved sitting by the fire staying warm and cozy, where his family knew they could always find him watching the news or gameshows.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private visitation and funeral service will be held, with livestream capability. Those wishing to view the visitation may do so by visiting Bill’s Book of Memories at www.parkmemorial.com on Thursday, December 17, 2020 anytime from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service may be viewed at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 18 by accessing the same streaming link above.
