July 21, 1957 – August 9, 2020
On August 9, 2020, Archie unexpectedly passed away quietly in his sleep. He was born in Trail, BC to Nick and Ann Makorto, joining his big sister Sophie who he adored.
Archie lived in Castlegar all his life. He worked at the local sawmill where he made many life-long friends. He couldn’t go to the grocery store without bumping into someone he knew.
He was known for his great sense of humour and playing pranks, betrayed by the twinkle in his eye. He was very generous and would give you the shirt off his back – that was the kind of friend he was.
Archie was an avid fisherman and took his boys out angling at an early age. Shooting tin cans with his old pellet gun is one of the things the boys will miss the most. He was very proud of his two sons and their many accomplishments.
Archie enjoyed gambling, and even won a lotto jackpot along with two friends. He was very good at poker and earned over a million dollars playing online; which unfortunately, wasn’t real money. Many evenings were spent playing ‘crazy’ with family until the wee hours of the morning. Over the years, he also liked shuffleboard, pool, pinball and curling and was adept at all of them.
Music was another favourite and he could name most artists after listening to a few bars of a song. He compiled a playlist of over 5,000 songs from all genres and would make CDs for friends.
Archie leaves behind his sons, Cody (Lindsay) and Josh, grandson Ray, sister Sophie, best friend Karen, aunts, uncles, nephews and 4 grand-nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Ann Makorto and brother-in-law Dave.
Archie is, and will forever, be missed and never forgotten. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
