It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Anne Frances “Nan” Dalziel, announce her passing on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Anne was born on October 30, 1937, in Sydney, Cape Breton. She was the daughter of the late Thomas William and Annie Frances (Gillis) O’Neill of St. Ann’s Street in Whitney Pier.
Anne was a longtime employee of the Sydney City and Cape Breton Regional Hospital admissions department. Following her retirement, she continued to maintain the friendship of many fellow employees enjoying their local supper club, in addition to the yearly shopping road trips to the US. She was a devoted member of St. Theresa’s Church and a member of the CWL for more than 50 years, as well as a long-time member of the Church Choir. She was also an associate member of the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre-Dame and found great comfort in the teachings and companionship of fellow members.
A member of the Steelworkers Pensioners Club, she loved card games with Bridge being one of her favorites, she enjoyed playing in weekend tournaments and loved the competitiveness of the game. She loved sports with watching curling, hockey and baseball being among her favorites. In her earlier years, she enjoyed packing the kids and the camping gear in the car and heading to the campgrounds at Ingonish or the cabins at Lake Ainslie. In her later years, she headed to Myrtle Beach to join her brothers and sisters, where she enjoyed shopping and morning walks along the beach.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Davison Dalziel; brothers,Joseph (Vangie Reid), Thomas, James (Audrey Reidman); and sisters, Gloria and Marie (Roger McLaggan).
She’s survived by her sons, Gordon (Sandy Baker), Thomas (Pamela Anthony), Frank(Heather Leader) and Paul, in addition to brothers, John (Gaetan Delorme),Aubrey (Patricia Parsons), Pius; and sisters, Sally (Eric McMillian), Mary(Gerard Rowe), Peggy (Fred Kirstead) and Florence. Nan will be missed by grandchildren, Asley, Jared, Brendan, Jeffrey, Robert; and great-grandchildren,Jordan, Isiah, Easton, Cooper and Leah, in addition to many cherished nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thanks to special lifelong friend, Sue Gillis, as well as Florence Deacon for all the care, support and friendship they provided our Mom.Thanks, as well, to all the wonderful nurses at the Colchester East Hants VON and the staff at Cedarstone Enhanced Care Home in Truro for the care and compassion shown during our Mom’s short stay there.
A funeral service will be held at St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney, on Friday, October 9 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed on Facebook Live by going to the SMC facebook page.
