Allison’s Obituary
With feelings of sadness and at the same time knowing that he is now at peace, the family of Allison Lee want to share the highlights of his life. Allison was an avid outdoorsman for most of his life. He enjoyed nature and prided himself on the balance of conservation and the harvest of wildlife. One of Allison’s greatest joys was fishing. He loved a feed of fresh fish, almost as much as a day of catch and release on the river.
Later in life, Allison turned his spare time and his love of fishing into a passion of creating art. Allison produced several styles of art including replica wooden fish and wildlife, willow furniture, and several types of folk art. Of particular pride were his studying about how to and building a cedar strip and authentic birch bark canoes. Allison delighted in seeing others enjoy his final products through the local Berwick Artisan Gild.
Some of his most memorable trips were to the Canadian Arctic in the 1987, where he experienced a week of living off the land with locals. Throughout his life Allison experienced many amazing fishing trips including several fly in fishing trips in both Northern Ontario for walleye and pike, as well as Miramichi River for trout and salmon.
Allison was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to driving a transport truck throughout Atlantic Canada. His career started at the Berwick Bakery at the age of 19, working as a Striker alongside his uncle Marshall. Then he moved on to Eassons Transport where he worked for 25 years. Allison appreciated the working environment where he was made to feel like family every day. Allison finished his career with Scotian Gold where he felt he was a valued employee. Allison could always be proud and smile about his excellent driving record over 30 years.
Allison valued family and enjoyed retaining and sharing family stories and local history. He had both lifelong childhood as well as adult friendships that he cherished. He enjoyed recounting the hunting, fishing, and exploring stories that these friendships created on the rivers, lakes and in the woods of Nova Scotia.
Allison leaves behind his wife Maureen (Merlin) of 57 years of marriage, his teenage sweetheart with whom he built a life, home and legacy. His immediate family was small with one daughter Maria (Jeff) Schreiber, Ontario, and two grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Matthew (Arin), Sioux Lookout, Ontario and Hannah (Dustin), Severn Bridge and his loving puppy “baby”, Maggie his tea cup Yorkie.
Allison was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Vivian (Hiltz) Lee. He came from a large family and was the eldest of seven children, growing up in the family home in South Berwick. Survived by siblings Donna (Wayne) Silver, Ann (Ira) McLeod, Linda (Brian) Deveau, Robert (Mary) Lee, Mary Lee (Mike), Bonnie (Al) Price, and Patricia (Doug) Acker, numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
The family would like to thank all the staff on the Veteran’s Unit at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Middleton, as well as at the Grand View Manor in Berwick, for their caring and respect over the past two years.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Windermere Community Hall or Parkinson Society Canada.
A gathering to celebrate Allison’s life will be held at a later date after this COVID pandemic has passed.
