It is with great sadness that the family of Alfred Henry Floyd, 91, of Upper LaHave announces his passing on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in New Cumberland on January 29, 1928 he was the son of the late Capt. Alfred and Violet (Wamback) Floyd.
Alfred started working in the forestry industry at an early age and in 1950 he joined the Royal Canadian Army and served at the military bases in Picton ON; Victoria BC; Petawawa ON. with 81 Field Regiment and A Troop 119 BTY Regiment in Victoria BC. He completed airborne training at River’s, MB and finished at Gagetown, NB. Alfred was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 23, Lunenburg.
After his Army Service he became a Long Haul Trucker, eventually owning and operating his own Trucking Company, Alfred H. Floyd Trucking Ltd.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Nowe), son, Martin (Sheila), Upper LaHave; grandsons, Ben (Jason) and Chris; sisters, Iris Young, Vankleek Hill, ON; Yvonne McTeague, Tampa, Florida and Margaret Kelbrai, Port Coquitlam, BC. and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Alfred with his family during visitation on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy.# 3, Lunenburg and where a memorial service to celebrate Alfred’s life will be held, Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Willis Ott, officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery, Upper LaHave.
Flowers from the immediate family only, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Cemetery, SHAID Tree Animal Shelter or to any other charity.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anne Chiasson and the nursing staff of the 4th floor at South Shore Regional Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Alfred.
