Adeline’s Obituary
The sparkle in her eyes went out for the final time on the morning of November 18, 2020, at the Gateway Lodge in Canora, SK. Mom was 86 years young and the news was a total shock to all who knew her.
Mom was born to Nellie Zaplitney (nee Stephanyshn) and Dan Zaplitney on March 11, 1934 on the family farm just north of Tiny, SK. She was the second youngest of ten siblings and six step-siblings. In her childhood days on the farm, she enjoyed cooking with her Mom, farm chores (not really enjoyed), raising owls from the egg to adult, picking mushrooms, berries and rose hips, riding horses, having tea parties in the forest with her siblings and animal friends, trapping gophers for a penny a tail and doing caring things for others.
Mom spent her entire life living in the Canora/Tiny area and in 1953 married Walter Kutney of Canora. Her vibrant spirit, sense of humor, mischievous nature, energy, and zest for life made those around her feel a lightness of spirit and inspiration when she was near. She truly enjoyed providing service to others, loved her pets, art, 3D puzzles, knitting, crochet, sewing, gardening, cooking, baking, and extended her healing spirit through certified Reiki, reflexology and prayer. She took care of Walter, at home, for almost ten years following his heart surgery and a stroke that paralyzed the left half of his body. She lived in her home in Canora until the fall of 2014 when she began to require additional assistance with everyday life and moved to the Gateway Lodge. Mom loved to spend time with family and friends, dance, listen to upbeat Ukrainian music, watch and record endless TV shows, and be in the company of her pets. She enjoyed the Lodge services and music performances and we are grateful for the care extended to her there. She taught us the value of family love and support, friends, honesty, great home cooking, wild berries, morel mushrooms, and service to others.
Mom is predeceased by her husband Walter, her parents, and is the final member of her siblings to pass on. She is survived by her three children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rhonda Shawaga (nee Kutney) and Todd Shawaga, her children Dawson Frost Boychuk (Isabelle Frost Boychuk), Shira Boychuk and her daughter Keely Mae Boychuk, Darien Boychuk (Ioic Joncourt). Darwyn Kutney (Karen Kutney) and his children Andrea Kutney, Adam Kutney (Keri Doan) and their children Maddox and Easton Kutney, and Irvin Kutney (Bernice Kutney) and their children Spencer Kutney (Brook Olliver) and Dr. Chandler Kutney (Robby Keuleman).
A Service for Mom will be held from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, 128 2nd Ave West, Canora, SK at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 2020, with Very Rev. Fr. Rac as celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, no reception will take place.
