Yvonne (Crispo) Dufour
1930-2019
Yvonne (Crispo) Dufour died peacefully on December 14, 2019
at Bissett Court Retirement Home, Dartmouth, N.S. She suffered from
Alzheimer’s disease.
Yvonne was born on October 16, 1930 in Havre Boucher N.S. to
the late Mark and Beatrice (King) Crispo. She graduated as an R.N.
from St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, N.S. in
1952 and began her nursing career in New York City shortly
afterwards. She married the love of her life Fernand Dufour
in 1955, and together they had three children: Yvon (Lynda Swinemar),
Dartmouth NS; Gina (Marc) Ouellette, Laval, Qc; and Arlene (late
Jerry) Bujold, Elliott Lake, Ont. They were married 50 years until
Fernand’s death in 2005.
Yvonne’s dedication to nursing and comforting the
sick was unparalleled. She worked in many hospitals in Quebec and Nova
Scotia and notably, Montreal’s Institute of Cardiology,
where she headed the nursing team for the first heart recipient in
Canada. She retired from the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth after
15 years of service. She spent most of her time travelling,
entertaining, cooking, sewing, and listening to music.
Besides her children, she is survived by sisters, Myrtle,
Marie, Leola Connor, Leonie Almeda, Dolores (Lloyd Leblanc); and
brother, Rev William «Bill» Crispo; grandchildren, Katie,
Jeffrey, Sarah, Andre, Julie Anne, and Michel; great-grandchildren,
Alina and Marty; and many nieces and nephews.
Yvonne firmly believed that she would rejoin her many friends
and family waiting for her in heaven. Among them her husband, Fernand;
brothers, James and Leon; sister, Theresa Marko; brothers-in-law, Paul
Almeda, Blake Connor, and John Marko, and son-in-law Jerry
Bujold.
Visitation will be held in St. Paul’s Center, Havre
Boucher, Monday from 7 to 9pm. Funeral will be held in St.
Paul’s Church on Tuesday at 11:00am, Reverend Bill Crispo
officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
