Mary “Babe” Margaret MacLean
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Nanny,
Great Nanny, Sister & Aunt. She passed away peacefully at the Inverary Manor,
Inverness with family at her side on November 29 th , 2019.
She was born in Bedford, Nova Scotia on January 18 th , 1934. She was the daughter
of the late Angus & Mary (MacInnis) Howlett, West Bay Road.
She enjoyed baking & cooking for her family & friends while sharing this passion
with her grandchildren over the years. Sunday dinners were always a popular
event at her home where family gathered & friends were always welcome.
She could always be found enjoying a good cup of tea with sweets. She was a kind
& generous woman to many. She was a member of St. Margaret’s Parish & St.
Margaret’s CWL, West Bay Road.
She had a wonderful sense of humor, always making others laugh. We will all
remember her quick wit & caring ways.
In her early years, she worked as a housekeeper for the Skye Motel then working
for CNR as a cook. Later in life she owned & operated a Bed & Breakfast with her
loving husband in West Bay.
She is survived by her only daughter, Mary Mac Donald, Evanston,
Granddaughters; Erin (Cory) MacNamara, Elmsdale, Brenna (Tyler), Coldbrook,
Kelsey (Leroy), Antigonish, who were her pride & joy. Great granddaughters;
Skylar, Paislee & Adalyn. Brothers; Bernie (Linda) Howlett, Steve (Marguerite)
Howlett, Port Hawkesbury. Sister; Tena Howlett, West Bay Road. Many nieces,
nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ian MacLean. Brothers; Leo, Jackie, John,
Donnie. Sisters; Catherine & Florence.
Visitation will be held at Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard Street, Port Hawkesbury on Friday Dec 6 th from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at
11:00am on Saturday, Dec 7 th in St. Margaret’s Parish Church, West Bay Road with father Duncan MacLean officiating
Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret’s Cemetery Fund or the
Inverary Manor, Inverness.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Inverary Manor for their
professional & excellent care that was given to Mary over the years.
