Linda Betty «Lin» Dempsey
– 75, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away surrounded by
her family at 10:06 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019 in the Valley
Regional Hospital, Kentville. Lin finally lost her battle with COPD,
Diabetes and Heart Disease. Born in Aldershot, Kings County, she was a
daughter of the late Margaret Ruth (Wallace) Maston and Gordon Vernon
Schofield. Lin was a 32-year member of the New Minas Volunteer Fire
Department Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Minas 50-Plus Club for 12
years and a volunteer with Margaret’s Meals-on-Wheels. One
of her greatest achievements was organizing the first New Minas
Celebration Days. She was extremely proud of all her family. She
enjoyed camping, gardening, family gatherings and walking in her bare
feet. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Art; two
sons, Steven (Susan), Fort St. John, BC; Skip (Kathy), White Rock; a
daughter, Janice Dempsey-Hathaway (Greg Hathaway), Canaan; eight
grandchildren, Michelle (Barrett) Richardson, Lucy Dempsey, Meagan
Dempsey (Joel Clarke, John (Kristin) Cruickshank, Adam (Kristina)
Cruickshank, Kyle (Mercaydez) Dykens, Calvin (Whitney) Dempsey, Noel
(Katrina) Dempsey; eight great grandchildren, Ian and Amelia
Cruickshank, Leo Pineo, Cali and Maya Richardson, Kate and Remi
Dempsey and Chloe Clarke; two sisters, Dorothy Warn, Prince George,
BC; Donna Lyons, Ripples, NB; three brothers, Fred Graves, Wetaskiwin,
AB; John (Jennifer) Graves, Canmore, AB; Doug (Millie) Graves,
Missanabie, ON; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant
son, Jason Joseph; a sister, Rose Wagner; three brothers, Willie
Graves, James Graves and David Graves. Visitation will be held from
6-8 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2019 in the White Family Funeral Home,
Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be
held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019, Reverend Virginia
DeAdder officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery,
Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Valley
Hospice Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Special thanks to the many staff at the Valley Regional Hospital as
well as the VON and palliative care workers who cared for Lin over the
years. In addition, the special, although short, relationship and
friendship that Lin had with Joan Pottie will never be forgotten.
