Obituary
With sad hearts and wonderful memories we announce the peaceful passing of Gwen Muir on Monday,December 9, 2019, at the age of 87.
She will be dearly missed by her four sons Garry (Elyse), Alan, Dale and Kevin (Melissa). Her grandchildren Alyssa (David), Corey (Courtney), Marlena (David). One great- grandchild Johnathon. Her brother Jack (Cathy) Richardson. Brother & sister -in- laws and numerous nieces & nephews. Gwen was predeceased by her husband Ronald Muir in 2016. Parents Geoffrey & Rosamond, and brother Geoffrey.
Gwen was born May 27, 1932 in Winnipeg, MB. She moved to Vancouver, B.C. with her family as a young child. She lived in Vancouver up until graduation from school, when she moved back to Winnipeg and took a job as an accountant.
In 1957 her cousin Doreen set her up on a blind date with Ronald Muir. It was love at first sight and the two were engaged on August 2nd, 1958. On June 17th, 1959 they were married at West End Gospel Hall. Together they had 4 wonderful sons. Garry in 1961, Alan in 1963, Dale in 1969 and Kevin in 1970. Shortly after Kevin was born Gwen’s mother Rosamond moved to Winnipeg to help raise the boys.
When Ronald opened his own auto repair shop, Muir’s Auto, Gwen handled all of the accounting for their business. She also loved to knit, sew and enjoyed making dresses to wear. Together Gwen and Ron enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends, often to the farm in Saskatchewan to visit Ron’s brother Cyril. Ron and Gwen took a cruise to Alaska together and had a great time on the trip and shared many photos of polar bears and glaciers with their family and friends upon their return. Gwen loved word searches and she never left home without one in her purse. She was a faithful church goer and attended West End Gospel Hall which later became Parkview Gospel Hall. Gwen is quite possibly most well known for her homemade buns. She was always asked to bring buns to any family gathering or church functions.
In the following years the family began to grow. Gwen was blessed with 3 grandchildren. Garry & Elyse who were married in 1986. Had Alyssa in 1989 & Corey in 1992. Kevin & Melissa who were married in 1995. Had Marlena in 1995. On August 2015 Corey and Courtney were married. In May 2018 Marlena & David Hykawy welcomed Jonathon Gwen’s first great-grandchild. On July 2019 Alyssa and David were married.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday December 17, 2019 at Parkview Gospel Hall, 234 Parkview Street, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing will be held one hour before the service. Reception to follow, concluding with interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
