March 6, 1934 — November 29, 2019
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence at the age of 85 from cancer.
Lawrence, a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, and friend, will be remembered for his restless and independent spirit as well as his kindness, sincerity, belief in equality and his fellow man.
Lawrence had a remarkable life as can be attested to by his children. He served as a stoker in the Canadian Navy during the Korean War, was a ranch hand, driving instructor, truck driver, facilities manager, heavy duty mechanic, aerobics instructor and entrepreneur. It was this entrepreneurial spirit that saw him uproot his family many times after leaving the service to follow his dreams.
In retirement, Lawrence’s ‘itchy feet’ could not be stilled as he and Sheila, his wife of 58 years, set off on many an adventure either in their less than reliable Winnebago or the ‘blue van’ hauling a trailer packed with essentials for journeys across Canada or driving down to Mexico with their faithful Pepe in tow. Wherever they went, be it Cuba, Mexico or locations in between, they made friends and had adventures that we at home would shake our heads at.
We will all miss him and will keep his memory alive in our hearts for the rest of our lives.
Predeceased by Sheila (née PATERSON) in 2013, he leaves behind his brother Percy (Ethel); and his children, Lawrence, Yvonne (Louis STUPAR), Chris (Marylin PERRY), Jodi-Anne (Len ANDERSON) and Jennifer (Paul GAUDET).
He also leaves behind his grandchildren:
Kirsten and Elizabeth (Lawrence and Christine (STRAND))
Sarah (Yvonne and Louis STUPAR)
Joshua, Jordan and Karen (Chris and Marylin)
Geoffery, Robert and Michelle (Jodi-Anne and Randy (SUMMERS)
Matthew and Manon (Jennifer and Paul)
Liam (Lawrence and Rosemary (RONALD))
As well as leaving behind his great grandchildren;
Dylan, Eric, Katelyn and Ruth (Kirsten and Rodney GLASBERGEN)
Gaelen (Joshua and Mel (STEINBACK)
Kyle (Elizabeth Crosthwaite)
Adelaide (Matthew and Andrea (LIESNER))
Zaiah (Karen Crosthwaite and Artees (VANNETT))
We wish to offer thanks to his comrades from the Navy and Korean Veterans Association, as well as Jean ANKERMAN for their friendship, companionship and support. We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff and nurses of GLENMORE LODGE for the excellent and compassionate care given to Lawrence during his residence and in his final hours.
