Obituary
Rose Johnson of Pincher Creek, beloved wife of James Johnson, passed away peacefully in her sleep and went home to be with her Lord Saviour, Jesus Christ on November 16, 2019, at age 90.
Rose was born in Glendon, AB on December 3, 1928, the eighth of nine children of Michael and Tanasia Fewchuk. Rose received her Bachelor of Education degree in 1949 from the University of Alberta and had her first teaching job in Pincher Creek. She married James Johnson on Valentines Day 1953 in Lethbridge, AB. Rose and Jim had five children and farmed until their retirement in 1980.
Rose took an active role in the Pincher Creek Baptist Church. She loved music, sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. In 2013 she received the Pincher Creek Inspiring Woman Award, named the “Rose Johnson Award” in appreciation for volunteerism and community spirit, and for over 20 years spent teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to new students from overseas. One of her proudest accomplishments was visiting people who needed encouragement, and she always brought a package of her fresh cinnamon buns or baking to friends or new members of the community.
Rose’s proudest family moments were watching her children graduate from high school, marry and establish their own homes, and having fun with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they visited.
Rose is survived by her loving husband James Johnson, children Don (Cherie), Betty (Philip), Jim (Connie), Ken (Suzan), Tim (Dana), eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her parents Michael and Tanasia Fewchuk, brothers Samuel and William Fewchuck, sisters Anna, Mary, Ella, Ruth, Elizabeth, Sennie, her granddaughter Sarah Johnson and grandson Dillon Johnson.
Memorial service to be held Saturday November 30, 2019, 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Pincher Creek, followed by a reception.
