We are sad to announce the passing of Dr. Mackim Kushniruk M.D., on November 9, 2019, at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, AB. Mac recently celebrated his 88th birthday in July amongst family and friends, with great warmth and humour.
Mac is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nadia; his three daughters, Marusha Xeros of Vancouver, Betty (Rod) Payne of Hong Kong, and Carol Kushniruk of Edmonton; as well as grandchildren, Taylor, Roark and Havana. He was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments. He leaves behind many fond memories with friends, cousins, relatives and loving in-laws from Nadia’s family. Mac was predeceased by his parents, Metro and Barbara Kushniruk; and his sister, Pearl Krokosh.
On July 16, 1931, Mac was born in Wostok, AB. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a M.D. Degree in 1957, interning and completing his post-graduate in surgery. Mac built the Northgate Professional Centre, and started his own general practice, which grew rapidly and supported many families in North Edmonton.
Dr. Mac was a well respected physician in family practice for over forty years. He was active in business, community and as a benefactor to a variety of Edmonton charities, including the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Hope Mission.
Mac loved to travel and always had a different project in progress at his Pigeon Lake property, his special place for family and friends to gather. He enjoyed history and had a passion for antique cars. His greatest love, however, was his family, to whom he left his legacy of love, generosity and care.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 18 at 12:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Suite 144, 5241 Calgary Trail NW, Edmonton, AB, T6H 5G8, would be greatly appreciated.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mackim
