Jack died peacefully in Victoria on November 4th, 2019 at 98 years of age. He is survived by Bev, his wife and best friend of 64 years. Jack leaves behind his sister, Ruth Clougher in New Zealand, his children Sandra (Bob) Beauregard and Ian (Linda); grandchildren, Esther, Mark and Jillian.
Jack grew up in Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1944. He worked for Water Survey of Canada his entire career.
An avid stamp collector since childhood Jack was a member of several philatelic societies and clubs. His postal history collection of colonial British Columbia and Vancouver Island won numerous awards in the UK, New Zealand, the USA and Canada. In retirement, he and Bev visited over 80 countries, with ship and train being the preferred method of travel. These trips were quite often planned around stamp shows and exhibitions.
Jack loved being outdoors. In the winter he was an avid skier, still hitting the slopes in his 80’s because the pass was free! Shawinigan Lake was also a special place for him where family and friends gathered frequently. He was very proud of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. Jack was always very interested in the activities his entire family was involved in.
Jack’s curiosity about the world and interest in others was appreciated by all of us. We especially loved his optimistic attitude about life. When he was 95 he renewed his passport for 10 years!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Coast Railway Association, Squamish BC or The Royal BC Museum, Victoria. BC
A Celebration of Life will be planned for the spring of 2020. Condolences may be offered to the family below.
