Christopher Lohan Sunday November 3rd 2019

Christopher «Bob» Lohan passed away on November 3rd, 2019. He was born October 29, 1930 in Dublin, Ireland.
Chris is predeceased by his beloved son Christopher Ward and dear daughter (Delores) Marie and her loving partner, Tom. Dad was the eldest of eight children and was predeceased by Liam, Tom, Pádraig (Pat), Andy, Sean and Winnifred (Winnie).
Chris is survived by his wife of 64 years, the love of his life, Helena and 3 of their children; Shawn, Teresa (Dan) and Helene (Frank). He is dearly missed by his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, his loving sister Maisie, sisters in law Bridie, Bridget, Vicki, Lucy and Beatrice and brother in law, Van. Chris will be sadly missed by many loving nephews, nieces and extended family, of both blood and heart.
Chris left Ireland at the age of 17. He first headed to England and then, when he was 21, to Canada; his second home. He joined CN and then moved onto the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he began his career moving rocks off of the tracks. Chris moved through the ranks and eventually became the head of safety for the CP rail! He headed international safety committees and took great pride in his work. When Chris retired, he founded the local CPR pensioners club and took pleasure in getting reacquainted with old coworkers and meeting new friends.
Though he loved Canada, Chris never lost his love for his homeland. His trips to Ireland to visit his dearest sister in law, Bridie and her sons, Liam and Sean were extremely important to him. Bridie’s welcome mat was always out when Chris visited Cloonshivna; the old farm in County Galway. These trips were good for his soul and kept him connected to his roots. Chris was always so grateful to Bridie and the boys for their love and support over the years.
While Chris was a proud, rough and tough Irishman, he was also a man defined by his faith. This encompassed the love he had for his wife, family and many friends. Chris lived his faith and was a generous and fair man. He was dedicated to the rosary and said it regularly with Helena; offering prayers up for those they loved.
Every new turn in life was a new adventure for Chris and he had many. Not the least of which was publishing his book, «The Three Coins», when he was 85! It was a story 40 years in the making and anyone who came within earshot of Chris, heard all about it.
Special thanks to the HSN South Tower, 5th floor staff for taking wonderful, attentive care of Chris. The family is especially grateful to the Maison McCullough Hospice and its incredible nurses, PSWs, dedicated volunteers and chefs; they provided added comfort when most needed. Our family is sincerely appreciative for the care and compassion shown to the head of our family.
All who knew Chris knew of his love for singing and his signature ‘Danny Boy’ performances. They were always a privilege to experience! And to quote this much loved song….
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling,
It’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide.
Chris, Dad, Granddad, G-Dad, we love you and we will miss you, God Bless your golden heart.
