Tillie Howe 2019

Heaven received a special angel. Tillie stepped into the light and into God’s loving arms. Tillie passed away with her daughter and son-in-law by her side on September 27, 2019 in the Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson, BC at 90 years of age.
Tillie was born to Emmanuel and Rosina Miller on the family farm in Orcadia, Sask. on July 21, 1929.
Tillie attended school at Fone Hill and Simpson school and graduated from Yorkton Collegiate. Following this she moved to Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. where she met and married Charles (Charlie) on July 7, 1950.
Tillie’s strong faith in God and love for others guided her life decisions as she provided essential support for her family, community and church. She brought so much love into this world. Tillie loved everyone and touched so many lives. Tillie’s greatest love was her family. She had tremendous pride in all of them and in everything they did. Tillie was an incredibly strong woman with a heart of gold. She asked little for herself, but gave everything she could to others. She was a devoted wife and the greatest mother of all time. She was a great cook, master baker and shared her love of cooking and baking with her grandchildren. Tillie was a great listener, influential teacher and role model and passed along her wisdom in a quiet loving way. .
Tillie worked hard her entire life. She worked as an aide at the Fort Sanatorium. After the birth of her children she went to work for the Department of Indian Affairs and retired in 1987 after 30 years of service. Tillie, never one to sit idle then worked for Neil’s Jewellery in Yorkton. Tillie was president of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and secretary for the Qu’Appelle Valley Music Festival and the Minor Hockey league.
In her younger years, Tillie loved to play golf and horse shoes. Tillie was a talented and accomplished musician and worked tirelessly for the Qu’Appelle Valley music festival for which she received an honor award and was the recipient of scholarships as a competitor. She was a mentor and encourager and accompanied her daughter and dozens of band and vocal competitors in these festivals for many years. She played for numerous community events and concerts and played for weddings and funerals. She was the church pianist/organist in many communities and organized and performed in concerts to raise funds for charity. Tillie also did several solo concerts as well to raise money for charity. Tillie directed the church choir and also sang in trios and community choirs.
Tillie was a kind and generous woman. She enjoyed crocheting and made many aphghans for her family and friends. She also made dozens of aphghans which she donated to the cancer clinic and victim services, made crate covers for the SPCA and crocheted bird nests for the bird rescue in Kelowna.
Tillie was predeceased by her husband Charlie in 1987, her parents, brothers August, Robert, John and Rod and sisters Bertha, Martha and Ruth.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: two sons, Harold (Theresa), Reg, and daughter, Margaret Miller (Arnold); one sister, Dorothy Olson, and one brother, Ed; her grandchildren, Darren (Joy), Melissa (Dean), Jody (Winnie), Jeremy, Jamie, Kimberly (Blake), Amanda (Mike), Brendon and Kaelene; Great grandchildren: Chloe, Elijah, Gunnar, Hunter, and Liam and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held next July.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Kootenay Lake Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and phenomenal care they provided to Tillie in her final days.
Too good for earth, God called her home.
