Stanley Cressman

Stanley Cressman was born February 29, 1932 to Allan and Mary (Toman) Cressman at Sibbald, AB, where he lived with his parents until they moved to a farm north of Guernsey, later south of Guernsey where Stan took over his father’s farm in 1955 in Lanigan, SK.
Stan accepted Christ as his Saviour in his early teens and became a member of The Sharon Mennonite Church. Stan met Vera (Snyder) at winter Bible School, Kitchener, ON and they were married at Elmira Mennonite Church December 10, 1955.
They made their home on the home farm and were blessed with 3 sons and 1 daughter while living there.
In 1963, they moved 2 miles north of Guernsey on the Arthur Shantz farm when Potash Co. bought out their farm. In August 1971, one more daughter Janice who was chosen joined their family.
Their family became an extended family when 3 nephews and a niece joined them the summer of ’78. Vera’s sister took her ‘flight’ to heaven leaving these 4 children to raise until each one left on their own.
In 1987, Stan and Vera moved into their home in Lanigan.
Stan served his Lord faithfully and had a deep committed desire to serve wherever needed. He served on the Guernsey School Board in the early years. An M.C.C. Board, Mennonite Conference Commissions, Sunday school teacher for many years, was on Church Board and elder as well as Full Gospel President for 7 years.
He drove school bus 10 years and taught Driver Education for Community College for 2 years.
A willing worker wherever called upon. A very innovative man, known for his inventions. The family, especially his sons, remember his expectancy of the Rapture. This was often emphasized at the completion of a job. “That should hold until the Rapture.”
He loved his Lord and has been an influence in His daily walk in a consistent way. His beloved Vera passed away in 2011. He leaves to treasure his memory his 5 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, his second wife whom he married in 2012, one sister, Noreen (Alfred) Polzin, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Allan and Mary Cressman and a step-mother Annie (Eby) Cressman, his sister Beatrice (Cleason) and brother Glen Cressman,
All of his life his walk with the Lord was first and foremost. Next was being a Godly husband and father, giving, generous, loving and serving. Also making family, friends and others laugh and smile with his gentle, funny jokes. He will be missed by many. He was a true servant of God. As his second wife, he has given me many blessed memories to uphold and uplift my life.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception.
