Phyllis Jean Rogers Ford

Phyllis Jean (Ford) Rogers
October 27, 1926-September 24, 2019
On a beautiful sunny day, reminiscent of the prairie skies that she loved so much, Phyllis Jean passed quietly and peacefully, surrounded by her daughters and supported by love.
Phyllis grew up in Millicent, Alberta where her family farmed for many years. The daughter of Jess and Elsie Ford and sister to Lloyd, she spent her youth exploring the prairie fields and hills of the Badlands on horseback. There wasn’t a barn cat or horse that she did not love. She and Lloyd shared many years of adventures together as part of the close-knit Ford Family.
When Lloyd got married, it was natural that his wife would be one of Phyllis’ closest friends. Dorothy was far more than a sister-in-law – she was Phyll’s closest friend and confidant for over 60 years and remains that way to her surviving daughters.
After working for many years as District Instructress for Alberta Government Telephone (AGT), Phyllis married Stephen Rogers (Toronto) in 1961 and moved to Calgary to start their family. Barbara Jean was first to arrive, followed by Patricia and Sandy several years later. She was an active and vital part of her community in Calgary, always the first to volunteer her time and energy to the events and activities that her girls were involved in.
As a family, they spent many summers at Mara Lake, enjoying the company of summer friends. After Steve’s passing in 1996, she continued to spend each summer at her beloved lake, gardening and tending her flower beds.
Declining health brought her to live closer to her daughters in Vancouver where she spent the last ten years, close to her girls, their husbands and her deeply loved grandchildren.
Phyll will remain forever in the hearts and minds of her daughters, Barb (Ryan), Patricia (Paul), Sandy (George) and grandchildren Emily, Hugh, Angus, Sophia and Aidan. Dorothy Ford (David, Cheryl & Bruce) share deeply in our loss. Memories of her quick wit and high energy continue to make each of us laugh as we share stories of her around the table.
We would like to thank the care team at Sunrise of Lynn Valley in North Vancouver for their respectful and loving care of our mother over the past few years.
There will be a small family memorial service in Calgary at a later date.
Donations in Phyllis’ memory can be at www.alzheimers.ca or with your local SPCA.
