Obituary of Margaret Frances Eaton
On October 13th, 2019 at North York General Hospital, surrounded by friends. Frances was born in Toronto on September 23rd, 1925 to Elizabeth Fraser Tait and Duncan McKinnon Eaton both of Scotland. She was predeceased by her parents, sister May Elizabeth Simpson and brother William Edward Eaton.
Frances was a graduate of Northern Secondary School, Toronto. She was a long-time employee of Dupont of Canada in both Toronto and Montreal. Frances led a life of adventure and commitment to good work. From the time she could pack a suitcase, she travelled the world by ship, train, plane and bus, returning especially to her beloved Scotland whenever she could. She pioneered the Toronto-to-Montreal-via-Bermuda route, which she utilized at every possible opportunity. During WWII, Frances was a farmerette, harvesting fruit in the Goodwood and St. Catharine’s areas. After the war, she was a Red Cross volunteer for many years at the Sunnybrook Lodge, an original part of Sunnybrook Healthcare Centre that provided rehabilitation to veterans. Frances was a member of various Anglican Church communities, most recently St. Timothy’s North Toronto where she was a volunteer archivist, member of the Chancel Guild as well as the St. Andrew’s Group, quilting and knitting to provide aid to various charities in Toronto. Her joie de vivre will be missed by her many friends and family, especially her niece Mary Eaton, life-time friend Doreen Fraser, Goddaughter Janet Fraser and friend Kathleen Olden-Powell.
