Irene Elizabeth (Clark) Rushton passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on October 21, 2019. Irene was born in Trail, BC to Cecil and Edith (Lepper) Clark on September 28, 1939. As her parents passed away when she was young she was raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Walter and Pearl (Lepper) Clark as one of their own.
Irene is survived by her loving children, son, Jeremy (Pyerr) Gatz, Thunder Bay, ON, daughters, Lea-Anne (Jody Matthews), Bible Hill and Janet, Truro; three granddaughters and their spouses whom she adored, Carolyn (Aaron Elderkin), Miranda (Derek Capone) and Andrea and a great grandson to be in February 2020.
She is also survived by her brothers, John (Genny) Clark and Andrew (Marlene) Westerlaken, sister, Deanna (Bob) Allen; her cousins whom she was raised with as a sibling, Ron (Pauline) Craig, Jim (Shirley) Craig, Sandra Sweeney and Ian (Sandra) Craig; sisters-in-law Mary Rushton, Elizabeth Byers, Edna Langille and Florence (Wayne) Cochrane. Irene also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins from one end of Canada to the other.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by her husband, William (Bill) Rushton in 2008, brother Aubrey Clark and sibling, Jean Kienitz.
Mom worked in Ontario as a waitress until she moved to Nova Scotia where she met and married her husband Bill and raised her family. She was a member of West New Annan United Church. Irene also spent a lot of her time volunteering with the Special Olympics and did so right up until she was no longer able.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 1 -2 p.m. Funeral Service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating; both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Reception to follow. Interment will take place in Bell Gift Cemetery, New Annan following the reception. Family flowers only. Donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the Colchester Community Workshop.
