Obituary of Ina (Durham) Quinn
Ina (Durham) Quinn
March 19, 1925 – September 28, 2019
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Ina Quinn. Ina died peacefully with family by her side on September 28, 2019 at the age of 94. Beloved wife of 49 years to John Leonard Quinn (predeceased – Jan 2000), adored mother of John Scott and Debra (Robin), devoted and loving grandmother and great-grandmother of Matthew (Dana), and their daughters Emma and Charlotte; Taylor (Kyara) and their daughter Lyla; and Ryan (Skye). Ina cherished her parents Matthew & Mary (deceased) and idolized her brothers and their families: Eddie (Val – both deceased) and their son Doug (MaryAnn) and children Andrew, Daniel, Michael and Lisa; George (Grace – deceased), their daughter Barbara and children Nicole (Carson) and Brittany (Michael), and son Robert (Tish) and children Zachary and Lucas. Ina will also be missed by her loving dog Casey – who spent so much time cuddling with her. She adored all her former dogs as well, especially Misty, who was her daily companion, barking through the Tim Horton’s Drive Thru.
Ina was born in her Aunt Ina’s bedroom in Ottawa, ON – her mom having traveled there from their farm on Amherst Island. Growing up through the depression her family moved many times while her father pursued work. They ended up in Toronto and Ina met John when they both worked at York Glass and attended a sleigh ride at the Guild Inn in Scarborough. That night began their lifelong love story. In her early married life Ina worked for the Toronto Stock Exchange, later telling amusing stories of her time changing the rates on the stock board. After children came into her life, she worked in part-time positions at GEM, Boutique Hats and Venus Lingerie, where she excelled from her ability to engage customers. Ina was well known for her love of desserts – she was always eying those options before choosing her meal. For over 80 years she looked forward to her breakfast of a bowl of cornflakes and a piece of toast with jam every morning, and more recently couldn’t wait for afternoon Tim Horton’s coffee and timbits! She was always a kind and friendly woman who loved to spend time chatting and connecting with family and friends. Recently she became well known to her neighbours for enjoying the views from her front window, while keeping watch on the neighbourhood!
Ina was happiest when she was with her family. Ina, John Sr, and John Scott enjoyed many vacations with Deb, Rob and their kids and always looked forward to every celebration or special event that brought the extended family together. Ina was blessed to have the outstanding care of her son John Scott for the last few years, allowing her to remain in her home for an incredible 69 years. Her passing has left a significant hole in the hearts of so many who loved her. The world is forever changed.
Ina’s burial has taken place. A reception to celebrate her beautiful life, and an opportunity to come together to share special memories will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2019, from 12:30 – 3:30pm at her home in Thornhill. In lieu of flowers, we invite those who can, to donate in Ina’s name to the Hospital for Sick Children.
