Dennis Stephen David Jackson
1934-2019
Dennis Stephen David Jackson – age 85, of
Gibson Woods, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully at 7:59 a.m. on
Tuesday, October 22, 2019 in the Valley Regional Hospital with his
family by his side. Born on August 28, 1934 in Inglewood, Nova Scotia,
he was a son of the late Fred and Mary Jackson (Sibley). He was a
loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle
and friend. Surviving are his wife, Helena (Tiny) Jackson of
sixty-four years; daughters, Kimberly (John) Bennett, Marilyn (Conrad)
Belleville; son, Leonard Jackson; sisters, Sylvia (Bill) Clements and
Marjorie (John) Butler; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and
nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his son, David
Jackson; grandsons, Stephen Henson and Sean
McCourt; brothers, Hilton Jackson and
Malcolm Jackson. Dennis was a hard-working and caring man, with an
enormous sense of humour and infectious laugh. He was a Veteran of the
Canadian Armed Forces, where he honourably served 28 years. During his
service he visited several countries on various deployments with HMCS
Bonaventure, where one of his tours of duty took him across the Arctic
Circle; a moment with which he was very proud of. Dennis was a
founding member and served on the board of the Valley African Nova
Scotia Development Association (VANSDA), where he also served as
treasurer. He was a member of the Black Cultural Society, Royal
Canadian Legion, Branch #6, Kentville and the Gibson Woods Baptist
Church. On Friday, November 1, 2019, visitation will be held from
12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service, at 2:00 p.m. with
Pastor Stephen Gough officiating, followed by a reception; all to take
place in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial service will
take place at a later date at the Gibson Woods Baptist Church
Cemetery. Dennis’ family would like to sincerely thank the
ICU and Surgical doctors and nurses at the Valley Regional Hospital
for their warmth and care. Donations in memory may be made to the
Gibson Woods Baptist Church. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
