CULLIGAN, Clara Elizabeth
1928 – 2019
It is with sadness, gratitude and love that family members wish to announce the death of Clara Elizabeth “Betty” (Culligan) Pilon, on October 5, 2019 at the age of 91. She passed away peacefully at home after a brief struggle with cancer, surrounded by her family.
Born on February 25th, 1928, and raised in Belledune, NB, Betty lived her adult life and raised her children in Dalhousie, NB, LaTuque, QC, and Gatineau, QC.
Her greatest pride came from her love of her husband, six daughters, five sons-in-law, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. As matriarch, she took pleasure in hosting her family around her pool in the summer, and in preparing her famous Italian casserole. She was also well known for her quick wit, side-splitting jokes, homemade bread, curling and top-notch bridge and cribbage skills. She was a longtime member of the Gatineau Bridge Club and a former member of the Rideau Curling Club.
She will be greatly missed by her husband of 66 years, Reginald “Reg” Pilon, daughters, Debbie (Tim), Cindy (Guy), Wanda, Claudia (Benoît), Cheryl (Gary), Carrie (Steve), along with their children. She was predeceased by her parents Daniel II and Ethel (Cormier), siblings Vincent, Emmett, Angela, Berniece, Bert, Ray and Chester. She will be sadly missed by her brother Daniel III (Don), Norma Carrier and Ruth Farrell, along with four sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond.
Her funeral service will be held at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church in Gatineau on Friday October 11 at 11:00 am. The family will receive condolences from 10:15 at the church. A graveside service will be held in Belledune, NB at a later date.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care team of the CLSC, especially nurse Linda Courbron.
