Obituary of Anne Florence Pappenfus
Anne Florence Pappenfus (Bowers)
April 27, 1917 – September 28,2019
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the Matriarch of our family: Anne was born in Spruce Grove, Alberta to German immigrants Josef and Maria (Schopf) Bowers. Her early life was spent on the farm with 9 children in her family. Anne was an identical twin to her sister Emma. They were inseparable all through their lives. After obtaining grade XII, she entered training as a psychiatric nurse in The Battlefords. It was there that she met Roy Pappenfus and they were married on October 8, 1941. She left her career to become a wife and mother to 4 daughters. Anne always had amazing energy and determination. Her life was often challenging due to Roy’s diagnosis of polio in 1949. She was extremely proud of her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her inner strength, determination and resilience, which she instilled in her daughters, enabled her to live a wonderful and long life. Her faith was very important to her, she was member of the CWL for over 65 Years, and a member of the Lion Ls Club. She was without a doubt an amazing and incredible lady and we are fortunate to have had her in our lives. She loved to entertain and travel, anyone was always welcome in our home. Her words of wisdom were many, but one thing she lived by was « Treat everyone with kindness and respect. » Over the course of her 102 years she made many friends: Jean Achs, Kathy and Joe Penkala, Audrey Kako, and Rose Brickner to name only a few. Anne was predeceased by her husband Roy, daughter Barbera, her twin sister Emma, her great niece Jolene Riou, son-in-law Bob Messett and all of her siblings. Left to mourn her passing are: Joan (David) Brewer, Pat Redl, Joyce (Kelly) Phillips, she was Nana to 10 grandchildren: Tricia and Tara Pauli, Michael, Ronda and Rob Messett, Scott, Barbara, and Craig Redl, Joanna and Christopher Phillips, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, Emma’s children, to whom she had a special relationship Jean, Germaine, Charles and Joanne Riou. The family wishes to thank The Sisters of St. Joseph who treated her with dignity and respect and provided the love and care that she so deserved and 2 special caregivers Cindy and Joyce. Please join us to celebrate Anne’s life on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1235-12 Street E. Those wishing to make memorial donations may consider: St. Joseph’s Home or Saskatchewan Alternative Initiatives (SAI), 851 A 58 St E, Saskatoon, SK S7K 6X5 the organization that provides choice, opportunities and loving care for her granddaughter Joanna. Arrangements have been entrusted to Morgan Edwards at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Condolences can be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com.
