Mom,born Odelide Laura Marie Jones nee Sabourin, passed quietly,Thursday Sept 26, with family at her side, God saw that she was tired and took away her pain and gave her peace.She will be happily reunited with her first love and husband Hector Jones who died in 1987.
She leaves behind her beloved children, Joyce Shannon (Mel) Prescott; Gerald (Barbara Rimmer-Jones); Patricia Mathewson (deceased husband Lynn); Helen Schruder (Larry); Brenda Jones all of Pembroke. Her sisters Rita Bernatchez, (deceased husband John), Pembroke; Germaine Lacroix, (Raymond), Ottawa and sister in law Helen Sabourin(deceased husband Rene), Pembroke. She will always be a precious nanny in the hearts of her 11 grandchildren,8 great grandchildren, 2 great -great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Also reunited with her mom, Regina Giroux, who died very young but was always close to her heart, and her father Paul Sabourin, brothers Albert Sabourin, wife Monique deceased, Sudbury and Lionel Rene Sabourin, Pembroke, her step mother Rose Marie Graveline, and her grand- daughter Nikola Schruder.
Born April 4, 1925 in Gogama, Ontario, she endured a hard lifeafter the death of her mother when she was only 10 years old.On Feb 2, 1943, she was married and soonbecame a stay-at-home mom, with hands that were never still in the kitchen or gardens. She was always busy making the world a better place by adding warmth through her knitting and crocheting, sewing for family and friends and her irresistible cooking and baking skills. She will be missed by all who knew her. We thank her for her many stories and photos and her little black book that will carry the family genealogy forward.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Odel withh her family during visitation at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 296 Isabella Street, Pembroke on Sunday 2 -4 and 7 – 9 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Monday. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday September 30th at 11:00 a.m. in The Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Pembroke. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery. Her faith meant everything to her so donations to the restoration fund of Holy Name of Jesus Church, her church since 1943 would be appreciated.
