Marlene Armbruster

ARMBRUSTER: Marlene
1958 – 2019
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marlene M. (McKay) Armbruster announce her sudden passing on September 17, 2019 at the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon.
Marlene was born July 29th, 1958 at Watrous Union Hospital, middle child to Bernie & Annie McKay. She attended all of her school years at Simpson School. After graduation she took summer employment at the Sask. Wheat Pool experimental farm and then onto Simpson Co-op as bookkeeper/clerk. After four years there she decided to make the move to the city and was employed with Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation for fifteen years, briefly at Printwest Communications and then onto Rak’s Bowling Pinhouse for eight years. After the bowling alley was sold, she began employment at Prairie Crane in 2006 as office administrator/ dispatcher, working there until her passing.
Marlene was raised on the family farm, west of Simpson, as all farm families, working together doing chores and raising animals. This is where Marlene’s love of animals was born, she was never without a batch of kittens on her lap but really had a hate for the turkeys or birds in general that also occupied the farmyard! As an adult she was never without a cat or dog as a house pet.
Marlene had a passion for her yard, she took great pride in her little garden, ponds, fountains, flowers and foliage of every description abounded, she spent every spare minute she could tending her front and back yards. In the winter months needlepoint and reading would pass her time. She was an avid sports fan and in early years followed ball. This was inherited from her Dad and she followed the Simpson BerMacs, which her brother Dale played and was coached by her Dad and Mac Stewart. In more recent years she loved to watch curling and never missed watching the summer or Winter Olympics. She could make delicious cheesecakes and the best sour cabbage-cabbage rolls that will be missed at family functions.
Marlene is predeceased by parents Bernie & Annie McKay and brother-in-law Jerry Sinnamon. She is survived by sister Wendy Sinnamon, brother Dale McKay, sister-in-law Deanie McKay, nephews, Bryce (Kelly) Sinnamon, Darin & Daniel McKay, nieces Kelly (David) Sather, and Kassidy McKay, great nephews and nieces, Hunter, Jace, Lochlyn, Natalie, Lexi and Kylie.
Marlene’s constant companions were her two dogs Buddy (who passed this past spring) and Brandi. She loved them both as her children!
A Celebration of Marlene’s Life, for friends and family, will be held in the Watrous Seniors Drop-In Centre, Watrous, Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 2 – 4 p.m. Interment at a later date. For those so wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations to New Hope Dog Rescue, Site 905, Box 11, R.R.9, Saskatoon, SK would be appreciated.
