Manuelita “Lita Maningas

Lita, 67, returned to her heavenly home on August 31, 2019 after suffering from a major stroke that had left her debilitated for more than two months. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God was her support through her struggle, ultimately giving her peace with her beloved family and lifelong friends at her side.
Lita was born to the late Felicisimo and Maximina Maningas in Obando, Bulacan, Philippines on August 19, 1952. She was blessed to be born as the youngest child into a large family of ten other siblings. Most of her siblings and their families are in the US (Estrellita/Ricardo, Rodrigo/Susana, and Ramon/Epifania, and some in the Philippines (Elpidia, Ruperta (Deceased), Zenaida, Sr. Leonisa, RVM, Agripino/Flor and Herminia (Deceased)). She has one sister here in Canada (Irene).
Her elementary and high school years were spent in Obando, Bulacan. Although she started the nursing program, she selflessly decided to quit the program and stayed home to help her family instead she went to Singapore at the age of 30 in 1983 to work as a caregiver for an elderly client to continue to financially assist her family in the Philippines.
On June 1990, she moved to Canada to be a caregiver. She looked after a lot of elderly clients in their homes and was praised well by them and their families for her amazing work ethics. She also worked as a Health Care Assistant for the Baptist Housing (Central Care Home, Mt. Edward’s Court then to the Heights at Mt. View) for almost thirteen years.
Here in Canada, she met a lot of friends whom she considered as family including Josie (Geralyn), and Agnes, her lifelong friend of 30 years. They were inseparable, she lived with her and Agnes’ sister Arlene, her sister, Irene, and her nieces (Gloria/Mel, Ruth/Oliver, Olivia/Ferd) lived close by together with her seven great-nieces and nephews.
She was a great cook of Filipino specialties like pancit and some Singaporean dishes. She can be described by many as being very cheerful, loving, caring, generous, kind-hearted and compassionate. She was also a regular supporter of the ANCOP (Answering The Cry Of The Poor). She was a member of the Couples for Christ- Handmaids of the Lord. With the innocent heart of a kid and a bigger heart for her family, she would light up the room with her contagious laughter and giggles. She loved visiting different places with friends and families and going home to her native town to see her remaining sisters.
Her love and commitment to family and others will always be remembered and cherished. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the dedicated ICU, 6A/B and 7C/D staff at the Victoria General Hospital.
Funeral Mass for Lita will be on September 11, 2019 at 12 noon at St. Joseph the Worker Parish at 753 Burnside Road West, officiated by Father Alfredo Monacelli and assisted by Deacon Philip Yuson. Reception to follow at the hall downstairs.
