Joanne E Ingram (nee Snowdon)
Sadly we announce the passing of a most beloved woman on September 18th, 2019 in her 72nd year. She was surrounded by friends and family. Predeceased by her father CC Snowdon of Calgary, Alberta, and her mother Gladys Snowdon of Camrose, Alberta. She will be greatly missed by son Paul (Jenny T), daughter Jennifer (Ian), her dear granddaughter Veda, siblings; Gayle (Gerry), Cam (Maxine), Wendy (Ole), Cheryl (Dave) and her many nieces and nephews. Remembered also by her cherished friends; Terri, Lynn, Gord, Bonnie, Warren, Natalie, Lucille, Sue, Christine, Pat, Don and Nadia, in addition to her wonderful Mary Street friends, teaching colleagues, bridge groups, theatre, golfing friends and so many more.
Joanne grew up on Brentwood Road in Etobicoke where she took on a mothering roll at an early age, babysitting for neighbours and caring for her sisters; Wendy and Cheryl. She attended Camrose Lutheran College in Alberta with Cam and Wendy where she was an active member of the cheerleading squad and basketball team, while earning top grades. Following high school, she attended Teachers’ College at age 17 and taught her first class at Humber Valley at age 18. She travelled to Europe for two months with her friend Terri in the summer before she married Bob in 1970. They started their family in Pointe Claire, Quebec on Alston Street where she met many lifelong friends. They moved to Mary Street in Georgetown in 1980, where she stayed home with her children for another 8 years before resuming her passion as a Grade 3 teacher at Sheridan Public School. She had the gift of making children feel incredibly valued and capable. She worked for the Halton School Board for 32 years, enjoying the profession up until her last day of teaching on May 1st, 2019.
She had many other passions and talents including painting, gardening, bridge, word games, crafts, theatre and baking. Her true calling was a mother and role model. She was loving and caring to everyone she met and would light up a room with her smile. She took great pride in her children’s accomplishments. She loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful trips to Florida, Hong Kong, India, Australia, Hawaii, Vietnam and cruising the Baltic, just to name a few. She also loved to take detours to Fallsview, Mohawk and Las Vegas.
Joanne’s character was reflected in the number of families and friends she touched on such a deep level. She will be forever admired for her kind heart and generous nature. She had a wonderful gift of conversation and engaged people she was with to make them feel loved and understood. She treasured her gardens and will be remembered by her loved ones whenever they see pink flowers or a beautiful garden.
