Florence Mary Landreth, age 96 passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice on Sept. 7, 2019. Born in Stratford on May 31, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Emily (Graham) Calvert. Loving mother of Doug and Larry (Jane). Cherished grandma of Jocelyn Kaastra (Mike), Gavin (Natasha), Shannon; Sean (Eva), Kate (Josh), Scott (Denise). Great grandma to River and Meadow, Luka, Dylan, Luke and Hunter.
Along with her parents she was predeceased by her husband Don in Oct.1986 and daughter in law Louise in June 2019. Also by a sister Kathleen (infancy) and brothers and sisters in law, Harold and Shirley Calvert, Jack and Renie Calvert and Norm and Irene Calvert. Don’s family: parents Bill and Ella Landreth, sisters Janet Landreth and Helen Baumbach (John). She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford where she was an active member of the Needlework Guild. This group created many beautiful pieces for the church in the form of chair seats and kneeling benches. Florence had a talent for knitting and needlepoint. She was making her cozy socks for family member’s right up until early this year. She was also an avid bridge player and hosted many bridge afternoons with her friends.
After living in the home she and Don built at 5 Burritt St in the early 1950’s, she moved to River Gardens Retirement Residence in 2015. She enjoyed her time there where she made new friends and was reconnected with others. The care and kindness by the River Gardens’ staff was very much appreciated.
At her request, there will be a private family service at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford.
