Doris’ Obituary
Coon, Doris Constance, longtime resident of Hines Creek passed away on September 21, 2019 in Fairview at the age of 95 years. Doris was born in Morrin, Alberta on April 16, 1924.
While a young girl Doris travelled north to Deer Hill with her large and close-knit family. There they built a log home on the family homestead where her only surviving sibling, Gordon continues to live today.
Doris was very active with St. James Anglican Church in Hines Creek and was always ready to lend a hand at rummage sales, bazaars, teas & bake sales. She was also a member of the Order of the Royal Purple for many years. She loved to sing and was a member of the Hines Creek Choir. She enjoyed singing at the local senior’s lodge for as long as she was able. She created crafts of all kinds and even took up oil painting in her later years. She enjoyed curling, playing cards and gardening, but her real love was cooking. Her home- made bread, buns and cinnamon buns were legendary as were the Christmas dinners she would effortlessly prepare for up to thirty fortunate friends and family members. One of the great passions that she shared with her husband, Wilson was working with the End of Steel Museum to help preserve the heritage of the Hines Creek region which they both loved and were proud to call home. Doris was a friend to many and was loved and respected by all. She was the glue that held her family together.
Predeceased by: her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Wilson, her cherished son Adrian, father, Andrew Aune and mother, Sophie, brothers Gerhardt, Albert, Arthur, Clarence, Henry and Sigwardt, sisters, Ruth, Lillian and Thora. Survived by her loving daughter Sharleen (Ted), beautiful grand-daughter, Whitney (Hon) and precious great grand-children Adrian, Parker and Blake, daughter-in-law Donna Seidler, brother Gordon Aune (Juliette), sister-in-law Violet Aune, sister-in-law Jean (Mike) Yaremchuk as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services for the late Doris Coon will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dave Shaw Memorial Complex in Hines Creek with David Brisbane officiating. Internment will follow at the Hinterland Cemetery.
