Obituary of Craig Patterson
Born August 8, 1933, Tisdale, Saskatchewan, youngest of four children.
On September 15th, 2019, Pat, passed away at the age of 86 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Pat was a Korean Veteran who provided peace keeping duties for the UN. He was a POW during the Korean War. Post war, he was stationed in Whitehorse, Yukon as an Ambulance driver and then worked a number of years for White Pass until the family moved to Edson in 1980. After Edson, the family moved to Whitecourt, and then to Grande Prairie where he lived his remaining years. In 1985, he returned to South Korea for a memorial service.
Throughout the years he played hockey, curled and coached hockey, baseball and refereed. He enjoyed various community volunteering (such as citizens on patrol, Legion events and junior hockey). He enjoyed cards, watching hockey, and listening to western music.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Patterson (Grande Prairie). He is also survived by his children, Kelly Kovac and Bruce (Lisa) Patterson, four grandchildren, Lindsay and Haley Kovac, Raven and Paige Patterson (Edmonton), his brother William (Bill) Patterson (Calgary) and nieces, Frances (Guelph) and Lorraine (Calgary) and nephews Perry and Greg (Edmonton).
He was predeceased by his mother (Bessie), father (Joseph), sister (Frances), and brother (Norman).
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Grande Prairie Care Centre for all their support and care of Pat while he was a resident. As per Pat’s wishes there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
