Christopher Baldwin
BALDWIN, Christopher Gregory — Glen
Age 39, « We shall fight with growing confidence…we
shall never surrender. » Once said by Winston Churchill and
repeated often by Chris Baldwin with courageous
Chris Baldwin of Glen Haven, Nova Scotia conquered his cancer
when he passed away peacefully in Moncton, New Brunswick on August 29,
2019 surrounded by family.
Born October 15, 1979 in Toronto, Ontario and raised in
Bedford, Nova Scotia, Chris graduated from Saint Mary’s
University in Halifax in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science, Honours
degree in Geology. He quickly began employment in the Northwest
Territories at the Ekati Diamond Mine. His subsequent work took him
across North America, to destinations through the Arctic, Newfoundland
and Labrador, Mexico, Nova Scotia, Pennsylvania and Texas. Most
recently, he worked as a self-employed geology consultant and at
Louisiana Pacific in East River, Nova Scotia.
A passionate Nova Scotian, confirmed by his lasting desire to
return home, and his love for St. Margaret’s Bay,
Chris’ proudest accomplishment was the beautiful family he
sowed in a home he adored. A jovial host by nature, Chris’
smile, wit and jokes could ignite any room. His sensitive soul exuded
unconditional loyalty to his wife and children. With his kind and
gentle heart, Chris was an exceptional son, brother, uncle and
Chris was outgoing with an infectious personality. Wherever
Chris and Janice lived, they knew their neighbours. Like everyone else
who met Chris, neighbours gravitated to him. He stood out in
a crowd, literally and figuratively with his big beautiful features,
and was loved by everyone who knew him. Chris was unforgettable, and
was often recognized years later by school mates and others who knew
him years before.
Chris was passionate about the outdoors. From a young age he
enjoyed fishing (often in St. Margaret’s Bay) and hunting
trips with his dad. As an adult he enjoyed the solitude and meditation
he found travelling on any path through a softwood coastal Nova Scotia
forest. Chris loved the change of seasons, especially the fall. He
appreciated these transitions most while tending to his yard in which
he took great pride. He loved taking care of his property, especially
cutting the grass.
A true carnivore, Chris enjoyed cooking (and eating) meat in
all forms. He spent a lot of time learning about and perfecting his
barbeque and smoker skills. He will be remembered for the gatherings
he hosted for family and friends. It brought him great satisfaction to
have his home full of happy guests enjoying a meal.
Chris lived life to the fullest, and was lucky to have
squeezed a lifetime of adventure and love into 39 short
