Charlotte Weston
1942 – 2019
Charlotte Elizabeth Weston passed away at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat on Monday, September 9, 2019, at the age of 77 years. Charlotte is survived by her children, Nadine (Malcolm) Russell, Michelle Weston and Davette Weston; grandchildren, Jonas and Irlynn Weston as well as a large extended family including numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed Weston. Charlotte was born into a loving home on February 17, 1942. When she was 18, she moved to Calgary, Alberta from Scott, Saskatchewan. In 1966, Charlotte married John Edward ‘Ed’ Weston and they made their home in Black Diamond, Alberta. For the next 42 years, she was an active part of the community. She was Brown Owl, a Brownie leader for eight years, running the Southern Alberta camps for all Brownies as well as making over 1000 gingerbread cookies every year for their annual Gingerbread Tea. Many will remember Charlotte leading the Brownies through town during the annual Black Diamond Parade dressed in full regalia. She was a delivery driver for Meals on Wheels for years and enjoyed working with all of the seniors using the service. Most of all, many will remember Charlotte as a ‘Mom’ to more than just her own three girls. She had an open door for anyone who dropped by, any child who came to play and anyone in need. She always had a full cookie jar of homemade cookies and an extra seat at the table for any and all. Charlotte gardened, canned, butchered, sewed, crocheted, kept her house well and was a good cook. Many have shared memories of her and how she always had a house that was welcoming and smelled of wonderful baking. Many may also remember Charlotte from her time working at Turbo or Cargill where she was a hard worker and spread joy through conversation. She passed away after several years of decline from cancer. She spent her last months at St. Joseph’s Home – Carmel Hospice surrounded by caring staff and other residents that she shared her time with. She enjoyed all the visits from family and volunteers as well as chair yoga and the daily visits by the Lay Minister.
At Charlotte’s request, no formal service will be held. Instead, the family would like to ask you all to bake a batch of her favourite cookies and sit down with a cup of tea, a cookie (or three) and think of her.
