Carmen Hunting Crumback

Obituary for
Carmen Hunting (Crumback)
Active until her last day, Carmen passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 6, 2019 in Winnipeg. Born in Dunnville, Ontario on March 15, 1922, Carmen was proud of her family’s farming roots. After moving to Montreal, QC., some of her best memories were of the summers she spent on her grandparents’ farms in Oakland and Wilsonville, Ontario.
After graduating from Verdun High School (1939), Carmen did her teacher training at MacDonald College. She was a dedicated and beloved primary educator who taught at various schools with the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. Over her career Carmen mentored many young teachers, including Pat Conchatre who remained a lifelong friend.
Following the war Carmen married her childhood sweetheart, Jack (John Henry Broley) Hunting. Together they shared 64 happy years of marriage. Lovingly remembered by daughter Sharon (Michael) Moffatt, daughter Susan (Bob) White, son John (Leanne Dyer) Hunting; an adoring Grammie to Julian (Teri), Adrian and Dana (Hayley) Moffatt and to Alex (Jessica), Maerin (Evangelos) and Annie (Simon) Hunting; and great-grandchildren: Kyleigh, Katelin, Elizabeth, Hannah, Violet Moffatt, and Henry Hunting. Carmen was also a beloved aunt to Barbara, Louise, and Frances Holubek, and to Lesley, Vivian and Ellen White.
In their retirement, Carmen and Jack moved to their new home on King’s Road, Martintown, Ontario. There they spent over thirty-five terrific years. They gardened, square danced and enjoyed entertaining. Inspired by the vibrant surrounding community,
they were active members of the Glengarry Historical Society, the Williamstown Horticultural Society and the Martintown Community Centre. Carmen volunteered with the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Cornwall General Hospital and Meals on Wheels. Carmen always enjoyed the company of her good friends at the Martintown Goodtimers bridge club. Carmen always cherished her friendship with Rosemary and Bob Gray and the rest of the “road gang”.
In her final years, Carmen moved to Winnipeg, MB., where she was cared for lovingly by her entire family. Carmen enjoyed trips to Beaudry Park, the butterfly garden at the Winnipeg Zoo, the Leo Mol sculpture garden and was able to visit them all again right to up to her final day.
Many thanks to the caring staff at Oakview Place, who helped look after Carmen in her final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice. A family memorial and interment of ashes will be held at a later date in Williamstown, Ontario.
