Angele Debusschere Mazurat

On Tuesday, September 17, surrounded by family, Mom made her journey back to join her husband Albert and children Danny and Cathy. She also rejoins her parents Charles and Marie-Louise (née Durupt) Debusschere, sister Marie-Rose and her spouse Albert (Bic), brothers Leon, Edward and his spouse Rolande. On Dad’s side, she was the last member of that generation having been predeceased by his parents Clovis and Alice (née Aymont) and all of his siblings and their spouses. She was also predeceased by 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Left to honour her memory are her children Ron, George (Roxanne), Pat (Ron), Jim (Leona), Mark (Shelly), Bob (Marilyn), Carol and Shelley (Keith), her 31 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, her siblings August (Thérèse), Alice (Roland), and Bob (Pauline), as well as many nieces and nephews. She died awaiting the birth of 3 more great-grandchildren as well as her first great-great-grandchild. Mom was born in Forget, SK and arrived in St. Claude as a baby when her family moved in 1934. She grew up north of Haywood, and attended Bazin School. Her and Dad were married on November 21, 1953 in Haywood. They initially lived in Layland before moving to the farm in St. Claude in 1955, where they resided for the next 42 years. At one point, they purchased the old Bazin School and moved it to the farm where it became the family home. Mom and Dad retired to Haywood in 1997. After Dad’s passing, she spent her remaining years in Portage. The memories we each carry are too numerous to count. Her summer days were spent walking for hours in the bushes and fields picking wild berries or working in her garden. Her passion for her craftwork filled her spare time. She was always knitting, crocheting or sewing some item that was later given out as Christmas gifts to her many descendants. The most precious of these gifts was the teddy bear sleeping bags. Each week would find her baking her batch of 30 loaves – minimum – of her prize winning bread, and if lucky, a few dozen cinnamon buns. All of this is her legacy we continue even today. Mom was welcoming, resourceful, hardworking, helpful, humble and enjoyed a good chuckle. The love and pride in her family was felt by us all. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20 at The Good Shepherd Church, 1125 Saskatchewan Ave E, Portage la Prairie, MB. Prayers at 1 pm with the funeral mass immediately afterwards. Reception will be held in the parish hall after mass, with interment to follow at the St. Claude Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Michael J.Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
