Alexander Ingram Slack
December 9, 1937 – August 28, 2019
Our beloved husband, Dad and Grandpa passed away at the age of 81 in Calgary, Alberta after a courageous lengthy battle against prostate cancer. He passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side. Alex is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; two adoring children, Paul Slack (and his wife Cindy) and Justine Baumgart (and her husband Kelly); his three lovely grandchildren, Reed, Caden and Ailee and several nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Janet Russell Ingram and Alexander Park Slack (Glasgow, Scotland) and his sisters, Margaret Campbell Slack (Glasgow, Scotland) and Mary Brown Morgan (Jersey, Channel Islands). Alex was born in Glasgow, Scotland where he scrapped his way through technical college to become a draftsman. In Glasgow he met his sweetheart, Elizabeth, who were both avid ballroom dancers and together they won many amateur ballroom competitions including the Alberta Senior Ballroom Championship. His career took him to London, England and then to Calgary, Alberta in addition to many other locations. Alex’s many interests, apart from ballroom dancing, included walking, watching English Premier League Football, quoting Robbie Burns, history and theology. Alex was a selfless man, who cared deeply for his family and those that crossed his path. We know with his passing that he is no longer in pain but selfishly we would give anything to have more time with this sweet man. A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at the Marda Loop Community Association Hall (3130 16th Street SW, Calgary) on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 10:30 am. If friends so desire, donations may be made directly to the Calgary Prostate Cancer Centre (prostatecancercentre.ca/support-us/). The family would like to thank the Bow Crest Long Term Care Home, Dr. B. Donnelly and the Foothills Hospital Unit 72 including the Palliative Consult Service (especially Dr. M. LaBrie and Richelle) for the compassion and care they showed to Alex through his illness. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
