Obituary for
Zenon Andrew Wiznura
On August 19, 2019 Zenon Andrew Wiznura of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Thorhild, AB, passed away after a long struggle with Parkinson’s. Zenon, fourth child of Nicholas and Teklia (nee Kuchar), grew up in the county of Thorhild before attending the University of Alberta, where he received a BSc in Geology. He later became a teacher and brought his dedication to service and his outgoing personality to the halls of St. Francis Xavier High School for 23 years as a math instructor, counselor, and, later, head of the math department. Throughout his life, Zen rarely went anywhere in Canada without hearing some former student recognize him and say “Mr. Wiznura?” He was a foundational member of West Meadowlark Community League and dedicated himself to community service. After retiring, he devoted a good portion of his time to building birdhouses/ feeders, selling many of them and giving many more away to worthwhile causes for fundraisers. He was predeceased by his wife, Norma (nee Wilson), as well as by his sisters, Mary Kolasa and Lida Yacey. He is survived by his brother, Roman, his two daughters, Sandy Fitzgerald (John) and Donna (Randy Zutter), his two sons, Steve and Robert (Virginia Gillese), and his dear friend, Marguerite Belair. Grampa/Gido was devoted to his grandchildren, Sean (Jason), Dylan, Kate, Declan, Isaac (Jayla), and Clare.
There will be a viewing on Sunday evening, August 25 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home, 9709 – 111 Avenue, Edmonton.
