Prior to her marriage to Carm on February 3, 1942, Vera was employed in Winnipeg and the Carman area, for local farm families, and as a cook at the Carman Hospital, theatre cashier and a waitress at several restaurants. Later, she and her husband owned and operated the Carman Cleaners until 1970. She then worked again at local restaurants and the Carman Hospital, retiring in 1983.

Except for a few months during the war when Vera and Carm lived in Kingston, ON, Vera lived and worked in the Carman area. Following the war, Vera and Carm resided in town, before relocating in 1952 to a property on the Carman west road where they raised their family. In 1993 they moved into the Riverview Legion Place where Vera lived until her passing.
Vera was a vibrant active person who loved life and delighted in the people around her. She worked selflessly for the benefit of her family and community. Forever young at heart, Vera was a friend of people of all ages. Vera enjoyed socializing, bowling, curling, camping, sewing, gardening, bingo, cooking and baking. She was a 71 year member of the Carman Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Most important of all, Vera loved her family. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She made a lasting impression on her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and countless others. Vera and Carm danced together for eight decades! She was a beautiful person in every way. All of us will miss her dearly.
The family would like to thank the many health care workers and friends and neighbours who provided so much support for Mom and our family during the last several weeks of her life.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23rd, 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church with the Reverend Lynn Sanderson officiating. Interment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery, Carman.
