The family of Wells B. Chapman of Janeville, are saddened to announce his sudden passing on Sunday, August 18th, 2019 at the age of 64.
Wells was born in Bathurst, the son of the late Ellsworth and Alice (Good) Chapman from Janeville.
Wells is survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Godin) Chapman of Janeville, and daughters, Jennie Chapman of New York, Jayme Drummond (Bryan) of Fredericton, and Jessica Sheppard (Gregory) of Charlottetown.
He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Lee Logan (Jonathan) of St. Andrew and his brother Paul Chapman (Paula) of Bathurst, and by his four loving grandchildren Charlie and Wells Sheppard, and Edyth and Ellsworth Drummond.
Also, he is survived by sisters-in-law Susan Prestidge of Burlington, ON, Colette Godin of Bathurst, Paula Chiasson (Judd) of Bathurst, and brother-in-law Peter Godin (Carol) of Halifax, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Wells loved his community and dedicated his time to various community groups and organizations. For 40 years, he was a member of the New Bandon Salmon Beach Fire Department, proudly serving as a firefighter, first responder, and for 12 years served as Fire Chief. He was a past president of the Chaleur Firefighter’s Association and past director of the NB Association of Fire Chiefs. He was also a Mason member of Lodge St. John #27, as well as a member of the New Bandon Salmon Beach Local Service District. He played French horn in the Bathurst Community Band since its beginning. Wells has worked in the printing industry for over 20 years and for a period of time, owned his own printing business.
Wells loved to have a good conversation and loved making people smile with his infectious grin. Whenever there was a call for help, he was always quick to respond, never thinking of himself. He loved working in the woods and driving his tractor. He will be greatly missed by his girls, who he was so very proud of.
The body will rest after 2 pm on Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com) Bathurst. Visiting hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Wells’s life will be held on Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at 2 pm from Central United Church, Clifton.
Donations in memory of Wells to the New Bandon Salmon Beach Fire Department, Central United Church in Clifton, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
