John Edward Carlyle Thomson of Parkhill passed away suddenly at Strathroy Hospital on Thursday, August 1, 2019. Loving husband of Wendy Thomson (Shaddock) and cherished father of Ann Marie Worsley, Angela (Jason) Porter, and Amy (Mark) Cadman. Carlyle leaves a legacy in his grandchildren Josh, Mackenzie, Grace, Ethan, Jayla, Alexandra, Carter, Marcus, and Colby along with his many special nieces and nephews.
The loved brother of Florence Johnson, Duncan Thomson, Ruth Bullock, Carol Ravelle and Judy (Howard) Daniel. Brother in law to Lorelei (Dale) Battram, Karen (Rick) Gorman, Debbie (Jim) Wiseman, Julie Nelson, Rosemary (Ed) Shaddock, Vicki (Del) Huber and Doug (Shawna) Shaddock. Predeceased by his parents Simon and Annie Thomson and siblings Grace (John) McDonald, Dorothy Thomson, Colin Thomson, Betty Anne Thomson, Stuart Bullock, Barry Ravelle, Colin Johnson, and Ken Nelson.
Carlyle was an intensely proud farmer, working his family farm as a generational farm that suffered the devastation of a tornado in 1953. Raising beef and cash crop, Carlyle worked with his brother and nephews and passed on the joy of farming with his grandchildren. Carlyle’s work extended beyond the farm as he worked for 51 ½ years for the municipality looking after the roads and giving unsolicited guidance even after his retirement. Carlyle’s co-workers at East Williams Township were like a second family to him.
Carlyle particularly enjoyed music, specifically fiddle music; whether listening to or dancing, Carlyle loved to share the music with his family who was his greatest pride. The mentorship as a father and grandfather will always be cherished as a humble and selfless man.
A service to remember and celebrate the incredibly impactful life of Carlyle will take place on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at 3pm at the North Middle Community Centre in Parkhill with a visitation taking place 2 hours prior to the service. Donations are appreciated in Carlyle’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
