Shirley MacLeod
1928-2019
We are sad to announce the passing of Shirley MacLeod at the
Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 29, 2019. Born in
Denmark, NS, Shirley was the daughter of the late Elwood &
Margaret MacLeod.
Shirley was well educated and excelled in her
nursing career as a Registered Nurse, Midwife and eventually became a
Professor with the Nursing Faculty at UNB. She encouraged
others to pursue education, establishing the Shirley MacLeod
Scholarship for students pursuing a Masters Degree in
nursing.
She was best friends to all and was a dedicated volunteer
with the Fredericton Music Festival, in the NICU, rocking premature
infants and continued to deliver for Meals on Wheels well into her
90th year.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff in the
Palliative Care Unit in the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and at St.
Anne’s Court.
Shirley leaves her broken hearted sister Marilyn Conquer. She
will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews: Jane Boehmer (Steve),
Jeff Conquer (Judy) and Jennifer Hill (Don), Lin Urquhart (George),
Judy Smith, Scott MacLeod (Pam), Beth MacLeod, Catherine MacLeod,
along with their families; and close family friend Kelly Simpson
(Murray) and their girls.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her
brother Roland MacLeod and his wife Margaret.
There will be a visitation at McAdam’s Funeral
Home, 160 York St Fredericton, on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 from
4:00 – 7:00 pm. A Memorial service will take place at St.
Paul’s United Church on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 11:00
am, with Reverend Richard Bowley presiding. In lieu of flowers,
donations to the Shirley MacLeod Scholarship or a charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated.
