McMillan, Maria (nee Horodynsky)
Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at the Welland Hospital on Saturday, August 24, 2019 in her 69th year. Beloved wife of Ross for over 45 years. Loving mother of Greg (Amanda), Carolyn (Timothy), and Heather. Loving grandmother of Caleb. Dear sister of Nadia, Boris, Paul, and Michael (Christine), daughter of Helen, and predeceased by her father, Walter Horodynsky.
Maria grew up in Holland Landing and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Toronto General Hospital where she continued to work while she completed her BScN at UofT. Maria began her career in public health nursing and home care after moving to Niagara with Ross, including teaching prenatal classes and school health. After taking time to raise her family, she returned to work to become a director at CCAC. Her leadership and innovation positively impacted many lives in the Niagara area. Maria lived life to the fullest. She was an avid bridge player and curler, a passionate gardener, and world traveler. Her infectious laugh, bright smile, and positive outlook made her presence a true joy. Maria will be forever missed.
Family and friends will be received at the PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Tuesday, August 27th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral to honour Maria’s life will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 28th at 3:00 pm. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the Wednesday service (2-3 pm). A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion on Hwy. 20 in Fonthill. Maria will be laid to rest the following day at Queensville Cemetery.
